Founded in 1975 by Flavio Alessi in Bassano del Grappa, Pick Up Records is today one of the most important independent companies in the Italian music industry, operating as a record store, distributor, and record label.

From the very beginning, Pick Up specialized in progressive rock and Krautrock, becoming one of the first Italian stores to import these genres thanks to exclusive deals with German labels such as Sky Records, Obscure Records, Ohr, and Innovative Communication, attracting enthusiasts and collectors from all over Italy.

In the following years, the company distinguished itself through its ability to anticipate new musical trends, expanding its imports to jazz rock, heavy metal, punk, and new wave from around the world.

 

This experience led to the creation of Pick Up Export, primarily focused on exporting Italian progressive rock, soundtracks by Italian composers, and Italo disco. Through the acquisition of Cinevox — including the complete soundtrack catalog of Goblin and numerous works by Ennio Morricone — together with CAM and Intermezzo Media, Pick Up strengthened its role as a key player in both the Italian and international record industry.

In the 1990s, alongside its distribution activities, Pick Up Records also began operating as a record label, producing and distributing Italian bands such as Dunwich, Midian, Athena, and Fiaba. International success came with the album Return to Heaven Denied by Labÿrinth, released in Europe and the United States by Metal Blade Records and in Japan by JVC. Today, Pick Up Records is also the official label of The Watch.

With a catalog of nearly 100,000 titles in stock, more than 700,000 references in its database, and a 400-square-meter exhibition area, Pick Up is now the largest record store in Italy and a landmark destination for collectors and music enthusiasts of every genre, with a particular focus on metal music, to which an entire floor of the store is dedicated.
